Waltham Forest Food in Schools Programme
What is it?
The Food in Schools programme is a national drive to improve the nutritional standards of school meals and other food and drink provision across the school day; including packed lunches, breakfast clubs, tuck shops, vending machines, and water. It is a part of the National Healthy Schools Programme.
Who is involved?
Babcock WF Change for Children Team are working in partnership with Waltham Forest Catering and Waltham Forest PCT’s Nutrition and Dietetic Service to support the improvement of food and nutrition in all Waltham Forest Schools.
Since September 2006 all school meals must meet the new Government standards. Take a look at the School Food Trust’s website to see what’s changed.
What do we do?

- Helping schools to achieve the Governments new standards for school meals
- Providing information for parents on healthy eating for children, including advice on healthy packed lunches
- Running training for schools
- Providing training for school cooks and midday assistants
- Supporting schools to develop healthy eating opportunities such as breakfast clubs and healthy tuckshops
