Continuing Professional Development
Opportunities for teachers
Develop a more rewarding career
We have good schools where you will find yourself valued and supported from the start. EduAction works closely with Headteachers to ensure our schools are well run. This includes reviewing management practice and developing clear policies and procedures.
A significant number of teachers have been successful in qualifying for the Threshold. Our number of Advanced Skills Teachers, in both Primary and Secondary schools, is increasing. Other development opportunities include MBAs, NPQH, London Chartered Teacher Status, sabbaticals and international exchanges.
Making a difference to our pupils’ lives – Teaching in Waltham Forest offers you the opportunity to do this.
National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)
The NPQH is the benchmark qualification for aspiring headteachers and has been designed to prepare candidates for the challenging but rewarding role of headship. Since 1 April 2004 it is mandatory for all first-time head teachers to hold the NPQH or be working towards it. Once in post, they must gain the NPQH qualification within four years of the appointment. The ‘working towards’ arrangement is a transitional measure aimed to ease in the mandatory requirement and will be in place for the first 5 years only. Thus from 1 April 2009 the mandatory requirement will be that all those appointed to their first headship post will need to hold the NPQH qualification. It is valid for the whole of a teacher’s or headteacher’s career.

Chartered London Teacher Status
Chartered London Teacher status (CLT) was launched in September 2004 and is designed to recognise and reward the skills and expertise of London teachers. Any teacher who meets the standards will gain the status and a one-off payment of £1,000. Information on how CLT can be achieved can be found on http://www.londonchallenge.gov.uk/
