As a Newly Qualified Teacher you will have an induction period. This is designed to support you, and enable you to build on the knowledge and skills developed during your initial teacher training. This support will assist you to achieve success in completing your induction year. The induction period usually lasts for three school terms. It has two main elements:

  • an individual programme of support, guidance and professional development and monitoring and
  • assessment against the Core Standards

Support and professional development

You will have the support of an induction tutor and headteacher, and the local authority. You and your induction tutor will begin by setting the objectives for your induction period. Your Career Entry and Development Profile (CEDP) should be made available to your school so your induction can address your development priorities.
